You are viewing an original 1865 drawing by famed artist Winslow Homer of the Race Track at Saratoga.  The illustration is an original leaf from an August 1865 edition of Harper's Weekly, the most popular illustrated newspaper of the day.

This is a fascinating image showing the crowd enjoying a day at the races in 1865.  The drawing shows the unmistakable style of Winslow Homer.  The image is captioned, "Our Watering Places - Horse Racing at Saratoga." The image shows the excitement of a horse race.  In the right portion of the picture, horses can be seen racing in front of the crowd. The crowd is seen wildly cheering the horses on. It is interesting to note all the rich historical detail in the illustration.  You can see the styles and customs of the people of this day.
