Uncle Sam's Garden Poster

[More Uncle Pictures]

This poster shows a man and woman tending a vegetable garden, with Uncle Sam and an arrangement of vegetables in the foreground. The poster is labeled, "Uncle Sam says - garden to cut food costs Ask the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Washington, D.C., for a free bulletin on gardening - it's food for thought ". The poster was part of a World War 1 conservation project, and encouraged civilians to grow their own food, leaving the commercial food for use in the war effort.

The poster was created by the United States Department of Agriculture in 1917.
