You are viewing an original 1863 picture of the New Orleans Levee.  The illustration shows an important scene in the history of the levee, showing the day that Rebel Prisoners were evacuated from the city.  The illustration is captioned, "Scene on the Levee at New Orleans on the departure of the Paroled Rebel Prisoners, February 20, 1863. - Sketched by Mr. Hamilton. - [See Page 180]."
