War in the Border States" Print
This, is an 1863 Thomas Nast Civil War
illustration. The leaf is captioned, "The War in the West.", and has a
large banner which reads, "The War in The Border States". The
illustration shows a picture of the suffering of families living in the
border states during the Civil War. The inset image on the left of the leaf
shows starving women and children begging soldiers for bread. The
image shows a generous soldier giving the meager rations that he has to a
hungry woman. |

Border States.
